Docents

Do you like meeting new people? Do you want to spend an afternoon getting to know neighbors and visitors? Join our docent corps! Docents are our ambassadors, greeting visitors during exhibit hours and answering questions at the Village House, Webb House, and Schoolhouse. You can make a lasting impact on our visitors.

Docents volunteer for three-hour shifts throughout the summer during exhibit hours (Wed, Thurs, Fri, Sun 2-5pm and Sat 11am-5pm). Special training is available from curatorial staff in May and June. Contact the OHS office for more information, 631-323-2480 or office@ohsny.org

Special Events

Do you love parties? We rely on volunteers to help with our special events such as North Fork Fresh and the Summer Benefit! You make OHS feel welcoming and friendly and keep our visitors happy. Contact the OHS office for more information, 631-323-2480 or office@ohsny.org

Tuesday Crew

Are you good at maintenance and repairs? Do you enjoy painting and carpentry? Join the Tuesday Crew! Members of this group meet on Tuesday mornings to spruce up OHS and assist with odd jobs. Gardens

Do you love gardening? We are looking for volunteers to organize planting and maintenance of our gardens!

Teen Volunteer Program

Our Teen Volunteers are students (grades 8-12) who are eager to learn about local history, art, and culture. We are looking for young people who are able to interact and work with adults in a professional manner, working semi-independently. Bilingual students are encourage to apply.

Teens may volunteer as docents during our summer museum hours (Wed, Thurs, Fri, Sun 2-5pm, Sat 11am-5pm). Other opportunities include helping with various behind the scenes activities, including social media, research, and light clerical work.

For those interested in completing more personal work, research and education projects may be available under the guidance of our curatorial staff.

To apply, complete the attached application, including a reference. References should be a non-family adult who is aware of your work ethic. These can include teachers, coaches, scout leaders, and counselors.
