2021 Village House Exhibitions

Where: Village House, 1555 Village Lane, Orient, NY

When: Fridays:  2pm – 5pm; Saturdays:  11am – 5pm; and Sundays:  2pm – 5pm

 

 

The six current exhibitions in Village House draw on OHS’s outstanding 60,000+ item collection of art, manuscripts, and historical objects. Except where noted, exhibitions are curated by William McNaught, OHS’s curator.

 

Oysterponds People: Captain W.W. Stephenson & Private John Henry Young

Centers on two celebrated native-son veterans of the Civil War and related artifacts.

 

Maritime Photographs

Presents a fascinating view of maritime vessel photographs—all with storied connections to Oysterponds.

 

Reliable Sources: Documents from the OHS Archives

Focus will be on some of the most compelling items in OHS’s distinguished collection.

 

Recent Acquisitions

Include an 1808 “Porter Contract Clock”; a shoemaker’s bench; a large mounted collection of East Marion and Orient post cards; and more.

 

Firefighting in Oysterponds

Concentrates on the Orient and East Marion fire departments and engrossing related material such as old photographs; documents; medals; old fire buckets; firefighting uniforms, and more.

 

An Orient Garden

Curated by Charles Dean.  Presents an overview of the 38-year history of Village Lane’s Adsworthy Garden, begun by Skip Wachsberger.

 

 

Admission is FREE for OHS members and $10 for non-member adults, which grants same-day access to all OHS exhibitions.
