Moby-Dick Reading Half-Marathon
Avast ye Friends of Oysterponds!
Be it known that on Friday, July 14th thru Sunday, July 16th Oysterponds Historical Society will celebrate all things Whale with its very first Moby-Dick Reading Half-Marathon!
Along with nearly nine hours of dramatic readings from Herman Melville’s monumental novel spread out over the weekend, there’ll be Children’s Programming, Whaling Talk, a Sea Shanties Sing-A-Long, Chowder & Biscuits, beverages, and much more!

To help out on Saturday, volunteer here.
Buy tickets for Saturday night’s Chowder & Biscuits/Sea Shanties Sing-A-Long here.
Ned Baldwin, chef/owner of the acclaimed Houseman Restaurant in NYC, author, and Orient denizen will provide chowder and North-Forker Sam Lear, a classically trained pastry chef, will prepare biscuits. There’ll be cocktails (incl. “White ‘n’ Stormies” with rum generously provided by Greenport’s Matchbook Distilling Co.), wine, beer, and non-alcoholic beverages served as well. Plus, David Nyce, former Mayor of Greenport, will lead a Sea Shanties Sing-a-Long.
Proceeds from OHS events help fulfill its mission of bringing people together to share and celebrate the unique history and culture of Orient and East Marion. Your support is greatly appreciated!
