SUMMARY:North Fork Art & Artists Exhibition & Sale
DESCRIPTION:October 10th thru 18th. \nLong Island’s North Fork has long drawn painters\, sculptors\, photographers\, and other visual artists\, inspired and energized by the region’s sky\, farmland\, and bays. In years past\, participants in OHS’s “North Fork Art & Artists Exhibition & Sale” have numbered in the dozens\, with a striking variety of media and subject matter that has captured visitors’ imaginations. OHS is delighted that\, in its role of as an important community hub\, it is able to provide a platform for the outstanding artwork produced by our friends and neighbors. \nThe exhibition will be held at the Old Point Schoolhouse (1555 Village Lane\, Orient) and 50% of the purchase price will go to the artist and 50% will represent a contribution to OHS. \n  \nSat. 10/10\, Sun. 10/11 and Mon. 10/12:  11am to 5pm \nTue. 10/13\, Wed. 10/14 and Thur. 10/15:  2pm to 5pm \nFri. 10/16\, Sat. 10/17\, and Sun. 10/18:  11am to 5pm

SUMMARY:Robin Becker Poetry Reading
DESCRIPTION:October 24.  Robin Becker\, considered by many to be the foremost feminist poet of her generation\, will give a poetry reading and host a Q & A following her presentation. Audience members will hear poems that concern Becker’s lifelong exploration of beloved animals\, childhood\, family life\, intimate relationships\, and cherished places. A former William Steeple Davis Trust Artist-in-Residence\, Becker will read poems composed during her fellowship year\, including one based on her close study of Davis’ childhood drawings. \nBecker’s ninth collection\, Midsummer Count: New and Selected Poems (University of New Mexico Press\, 2026) includes 30 new poems as well as selections from her previous eight books\, including The Black Bear Inside Me and the Lambda-Award-winning All-American Girl. Becker has received fellowships from the Bunting Institute at Harvard\, the Massachusetts Cultural Council\, and the NEA. Liberal Arts Research Professor Emerita in English and Women’s Studies at Penn State\, she served as long-time Poetry Editor for The Women’s Review of Books. Recent poems have appeared in The American Poetry Review and The New Yorker. \n
