October 24. Robin Becker, considered by many to be the foremost feminist poet of her generation, will give a poetry reading and host a Q & A following her presentation. Audience members will hear poems that concern Becker’s lifelong exploration of beloved animals, childhood, family life, intimate relationships, and cherished places. A former William Steeple Davis Trust Artist-in-Residence, Becker will read poems composed during her fellowship year, including one based on her close study of Davis’ childhood drawings.
Becker’s ninth collection, Midsummer Count: New and Selected Poems (University of New Mexico Press, 2026) includes 30 new poems as well as selections from her previous eight books, including The Black Bear Inside Me and the Lambda-Award-winning All-American Girl. Becker has received fellowships from the Bunting Institute at Harvard, the Massachusetts Cultural Council, and the NEA. Liberal Arts Research Professor Emerita in English and Women’s Studies at Penn State, she served as long-time Poetry Editor for The Women’s Review of Books. Recent poems have appeared in The American Poetry Review and The New Yorker.
