Gardiner Young Scholars Internship
We are pleased to announce that the Robert David Lion Gardiner Foundation (RDLGF) Young Scholars Internship at Oysterponds Historical Society (OHS) in Orient NY extends through the summer of 2025. The intern will learn about a variety of aspects of operations of a historical society with a focus on collections practices. It includes 100 hours of service with a stipend of $1,500. Work days will be flexible but will include Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Duties – the OHS Intern position will include:
>> Gaining a hands-on understanding of various collections and curatorial practices that fulfill our historical preservation mission.
>> Updating accession records in the computer catalog system ensuring that descriptions noted in the original “deed of gift” paperwork are accurate.
>> Assisting with presenting humanities events including lectures, concerts and gallery talks.
At the conclusion of their internship, the Gardiner Young Scholars Intern will be required to submit a short video presentation on their experience.
Qualifications:
>> Students aged 16 to 22
>> Good communications skills
>> Attention to detail
>> Reliable and hardworking
>> Available on work days
>> An interest in the history and culture of the North Fork of Long Island
